I maintain our CoinGecko pricing page, and re-checking it against CoinGecko's own pricing page turned up two things worth writing down. First, our table was missing an entire tier — a $999/mo Pro plan that sits between Lite and Enterprise. Second, once I lined up all five paid tiers plus the free Demo plan and did the cost-per-credit math, the cheapest paid plan turned out to have the worst unit economics of the whole lineup. Not a rounding difference — 75% worse than the top tier, dollar for dollar.
Six plans total, credits and rate limits as listed today:
| Plan | Monthly | Annual (eff./mo) | Credits/mo | Rate limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Demo | $0 | — | 10,000 | 100 calls/min |
| Basic | $35 | $29.00 | 100,000 | 300 calls/min |
| Analyst | $129 | $103.20 | 500,000 | 500 calls/min |
| Lite | $499 | $399.20 | 2,000,000 | 500 calls/min |
| Pro | $999 | $799.20 | 5,000,000 (scalable to 15M) | 1,000 calls/min |
| Enterprise | custom | custom | custom | custom + 99.9% SLA, SOC 2 |
That Pro tier is real and it's been on CoinGecko's site the whole time — our page just hadn't caught up since the Basic tier launched. Fixed that the same day I found it.
CoinGecko sells everything in credits, but the pricing page never puts a per-credit price next to each plan. Do the division yourself and the ranking flips from what the sticker prices suggest:
| Plan | $ / 1,000 credits (monthly) | $ / 1,000 credits (annual) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0.350 | $0.290 |
| Analyst | $0.258 | $0.206 |
| Lite | $0.250 | $0.200 |
| Pro | $0.200 | $0.160 |
Basic is 75% more expensive per credit than Pro on monthly billing, and it's the most expensive of the four by a clear margin — not close to Analyst, not close to Lite. If your only question is "what's the cheapest way to buy CoinGecko credits," the answer is never the tier CoinGecko positions as the entry-level paid plan.
Here's the part that keeps this from being a gotcha post. Nobody upgrading from the free Demo plan is choosing between Basic and Pro on unit economics — they're choosing between $0 and $35 because they hit the 10,000-credit monthly wall. Against that comparison, Basic still buys 10x the credits and 3x the rate limit for $35, which is a real unlock regardless of what it costs per credit. The per-credit math matters once your volume is big enough that you're picking between paid tiers, not between free and paid.
This is the one that actually surprised me. Analyst and Lite are both capped at 500 calls/min — identical. The only things Lite adds over Analyst are 4x the monthly credits, 10 API keys instead of fewer, and 10 WebSocket sockets. If your bottleneck is request throughput rather than total monthly volume, paying $499 instead of $129 buys you zero extra speed. You're paying for a bigger bucket, not a faster tap. Pro is the first tier that actually raises the ceiling again, to 1,000 calls/min.
Based on the published numbers, not vendor framing:
I fixed our CoinGecko pricing page the same day I found the missing Pro tier — it now lists all five paid plans plus Demo, verified against CoinGecko's live pricing page as of today.
